Winter Trail Run
Series 15K Results - February 9, 2008
Good Morning
Now Sunday morning in Laguna Woods, just finished the results and sent
them to me mate Doug for posting. Well how did we do? I fell in love 47
times yesterday at the WRTS 15K, amazing how pretty the ladies are at my
races; must be running on the trails with little on. Some of the blokes
were OK too... and young!
A runner did have to go to the emergency room, with a nasty chunk of wood
in his leg; funny thing was he did it at the 2-mile mark and went on to
finish! I did my best to assist, but decided hospital would be best. He
said he will give us an update in 2 weeks…. Tough guy. I did notice
several war wounds, both male and female, but no one complained. That is
magic. Did we luck out with the weather? Seems spring time has arrived.
Our new mate from New York City can’t wait to come back! Maybe we’ll get a
mention in Runners World!
Must say a big thank you to all my good mates who ran the show. One mate
slept over in the woods, so he wouldn’t let me down. We are very lucky
with the camaraderie. Maybe our numbers are small, but the atmosphere was
magic all morning in Blue Jay. I am sure you guys enjoy meeting new
runners, I do. Just a reminder, if you are interested in the final two
races and you haven’t signed up, please do so ASAP. Our Forest Service
partners request no more than 150 runners, the 129 finishers would have
been greater if the 29 no-shows would have turned up. Hey they make the
rules, not Bazza.
As for the race, no wrong turns this time! Me mate, Dean Dobberteen,
finished strong with a great time. Only 28 seconds separated the first 4
runners, with Christen Hahmas taking second and Todd Horton in third, all
in their 30’s. The women’s race was just as exciting with my girl Michelle
Barton racing across the finish line, 7th overall I might add, just 31
seconds in front of Lisa O’Leary. Rufus Schneider came 5 minutes back to
take third women overall. All the age group winners did good... Don’t
forget I try to share awards by giving age group winners their day in the
sun. The raffle went OK too, my mate Kevin did good with the Starbucks
delights again, our local mates at Fleet Feet Sports and E-Gel did good,
plus my generous give-a-ways…. (I was going to say throw-a-ways!) Hey as
long as we have a bit of fun, it was nice to see everyone staying around
in the magic weather. By the way, don’t worry I will pick up all the
ribbons, joking of course, just happy to be out there.
The sweat-shirts for runners completing all 4 races will not be available
until I know more accurate numbers, but by race day on March 8 I will have
them. I hope I have enough race shirts. I know some have requested buying
them… Maybe later? Of course, I will get more made if necessary. I hope
the food and drink table was OK, I am sorry me mate Billy Dickey missed
out on his beer... I will make up for it next time. Didn’t get one myself.
Plenty in me fridge at home of course.
Again thanks to everyone. We will be having more fun in the woods on
February 23. Be sure to bring a water bottle next time, especially if it
is warm weather. Any questions - you can always email me at home
bazhawley@sti.net.
Love these amazing machines, just wish I knew more.
Love and Happy Valentines me ladies! BAZ XXX
